The principles we live by for our everyday functioning.
01
Our Values
We work with those that do what they say and say what they do.
We work with those that have the skillset to get the job done and excel at their roles.
We appreciate people who speak their mind;
are polite but honest.
We encourage individuals who take charge of opportunities without waiting for someone else to do.
03
Google before you ask
Most answers are within you. If not, then they’re definitely on Google. Our founders have educational degrees in engineering and banking. When they started off, all firsts back then and even today were approached by googling and then built onward. At The Works, don’t hesitate to ask for help, but don’t wait for someone to chaperone you.
02
First Principles Thinking
We approach any problem, big or small, with first principles thinking. We don’t believe in over-intellectualising and adding layers of faff. We break down objectives and goals to their fundamental truths and then work our way up.
04
Creating and critiquing are two separate processes
We are in the creative business, coming up with near-original ideas which are functional is the premise. Creating and critiquing simultaneously is like taking a step ahead and two back. We strongly believe in keeping the two separate- we let the first process be that of collecting ideas and thoughts based on brief and research, and then trimming them down with necessary actions; a classic case of divergent and convergent thinking.
06
Monetary value is directly proportional to functional value
We don’t wait for annual appraisals. Performing better? Delivering more?
Let us sit at the table and discuss a raise. Proportionate work and monetary compensation is a given. We believe everybody is smart enough to calculate their give and takes, and sooner or later a correction is bound to come. So, why not do what’s right, now.
05
Hierarchies and great ideas are mutually exclusive
We have hierarchies in place to manage the endeavours that we embark on. Our leaders at every level have good judgement and always seek for diverse perspectives before they make a decision. When it comes to ideas and creative thinking, it’s an open ground. Interns don’t bring coffee. Leaders don’t delegate. It’s a collaborative approach where each individual is heard and a decision is made which is best for the collective.
07
Paid overtime sounds dreamy, but it’s a reality here; nothing special
08
Vipassana Leave
Vipassana means to see things as they are. It is one of India’s most ancient techniques for meditation. Creativity isn’t where you wait for ‘aha!’ moments to drop in your laps. It’s a consistent and conscious practice that one must see through to be a better creative, to bring out your artistic side and creative thinking to solve problems. We provide a 10 day paid-leave to team members who wish to go for a 10 day course to learn the basics of the method and its practice.

We have zero tolerance for snowflakes. Disagreements are a part of the day, not tantrums. We don’t babysit.

Freedom and Responsibility
Yes, you’ve seen this in Netflix’s culture deck. And we have no shame in following suit. As an organisation, we provide the platform and resources required for our teams to function at their highest potential. We do not micro-manage. This allows each team member to maximize the freedom of pursuing their idea with the ownership of its result. This generates a collective sense of responsibility which drives day-to-day functions to our best work.
